Holidays are all about great food – a lazy guide to 7 newly opened restaurants in Greater Taipei in September

To cash in on the summer holiday rush, many new restaurants rushed to open in July and August. However, some chose to stick to their own timelines, so there are still quite a few new openings in September. These include the Cherry Blossom (Chibi Maruko-chan) themed restaurant that saw huge crowds on its first day, the burger-specializing Burger Lab., the Japanese kaiten-zushi brand HAMA Sushi, plus four other new restaurants — totaling seven. Let’s take a look at what they are.

Cherry Maruko-chan Themed Restaurant
Taiwan’s first officially licensed overseas Cherry Maruko-chan (Chibi Maruko-chan) themed restaurant will begin trial operations on September 10. Ahead of the opening, reporters took an exclusive look inside the themed eatery and its diverse menu offerings. Aside from the previously mentioned steak cutlet, there’s also the currently popular lobster burger in Japan. The most adorable item on the menu has to be “Yoshinori Soaking in the Hot Spring” – a whole onion submerged in vegetable soup, perfectly matching the dish’s name.

The chef has artfully placed various characters from the Chibi Maruko-chan anime in the dishes. One standout is “Yoshinori Soaking in the Hot Spring,” which is sure to bring smiles. An uncut whole onion represents Yoshinori’s head, accompanied by other veggie slices shaped like characters—like carrots and potatoes—as well as cherry tomatoes and pearl onions. Chef Huang Huisheng explained that the soup is a vegetable broth, and the onion is steamed before serving. Diners can chop it up before eating.

Burger Lab.
Seeing the potential in the burger market, a new brand, “Burger Lab.,” has launched with a creative twist. In addition to classic beef cheeseburgers, it embodies the brand ethos of “deconstruction,” “innovation,” and “reintegration” with new flavors such as Southeast Asian satay chicken burgers, classic American BBQ pork burgers, and the bold “Lipstick Pork Burger.” Pricing starts at NT$120 for a single burger and NT$199 for a set meal.

RÒU by T-HAM
“RÒU by T-HAM” is a new brand launched by Taiwan Livestock in May 2016. On September 9, the second floor space, “RÒU Space,” officially opened, featuring meat-centric signature dishes. The current menu focuses on à la carte options, with plans to introduce combo sets in the future. Menu highlights include cured meats, salads, fish, pork sausages, steaks, and more.<饭类等，单点价格120元起。至于台湾人最爱的牛排，这里提供澳洲9+及7+和牛小排、美国PRIME牛小排。

HAMA Sushi
Following the success of Kura Sushi, another Japanese kaiten-zushi brand, はま寿司 (HAMA Sushi), opened in September. HAMA Sushi’s menu features over 70 types of signature sushi, including nigiri, fried sushi, thin rolls, grilled sushi, battleship rolls, and the rare-in-Taiwan meat sushi. There are as many as 29 types of nigiri and 16 types of battleship rolls. The meat sushi options include grilled beef, teriyaki beef, and scallion ham.

Osaka Ohsho
Osaka Ohsho was established in 1969 and has over 350 branches across Japan. Its menu includes signature pan-fried dumplings, rice and noodle dishes, gourmet items (such as mapo tofu and twice-cooked pork), and fried foods. The chain also has outlets in Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The Taiwan branch of Osaka Ohsho opened on September 28.

The lobster burger, currently trending in Tokyo’s Omotesando district in Japan, is already available in Taiwan from two vendors—Longbuster and Le Kief 乐吉. Now, another lobster burger brand, CAPTAIN LOBSTER, is set to open on September 28 at Taipei Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi New World A11 B2 Food Court, offering lobster burger fans yet another new option.
