It’s that time of year again — Youth Day on May 4th. On this day, many compare their ages to see if they still qualify as “youth.” But how many people still remember the true origin of Youth Day? It was a passionate patriotic movement initiated by Peking University students in 1919.

Yet, just before this year’s May 4th, it was surprising news that Peking University students are launching another new movement again. Is it an anniversary event commemorating May Fourth? Upon learning more, it turns out that Peking University students did indeed initiate a new movement — except this “movement” takes place in an extraordinary location, at altitudes of over 6,000 meters.

The well-known university mountaineering society, Peking University Mountaineering Association (also known as the Peking University Eagle Society), revealed the mystery on May 4th. It turns out the “New May Fourth Movement” refers to highly appealing yet somewhat risky and challenging outdoor activities. The Peking University Eagle Society announced the official establishment of the 2015 Peking University Camel Mountaineering Team and Camel Scientific Expedition Team, and unveiled this year’s mountaineering and research goals. The climbing team’s target is Anyemaqen Peak in Qinghai Province, with a team of 17 members. The scientific expedition team will explore the Gongga Mountain Nature Reserve and nearby villages in Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with a team of 14 members.
