LOS ANGELES, June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Six explorers from China and the United States officially set off on June 3 local time on the U.S. East Coast from the famous tourist city of Plymouth. They will then embark on a cycling journey along the historic Route 66, the first transcontinental highway in the U.S., established in 1926. Their route will take them through 13 states including Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, before concluding their ride in Los Angeles, California on the West Coast. This 5,900-kilometer journey is planned to be completed within 60 to 70 days.

Starting from the birthplace of America

At 11:00 a.m. on June 3, the press conference and launch ceremony for the "Tufeng Travel 'Ride' the USA – 2015 Chinese Travelers' 60-Day Cross-America Discovery Journey" was held in front of the Mayflower in Plymouth, known as the "Home of America." The event was jointly witnessed by Anna Liu, the Americas Product Operations Manager of Tufeng Travel, Sharon Xu, a representative from the Boston Tourism Board, Richard Pickering, Executive Director of Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower, as well as influential local Chinese and American media. The miraculous cycling team set off from this historic site.

Known as the Home of America, Plymouth is the birthplace of the American Revolutionary War. The Mayflower is the most famous attraction in Plymouth, symbolizing the beginning of the American spirit of covenant. The Mayflower Compact, created in 1620, became the first of many self-governance agreements in the U.S., signifying that people could govern themselves and were no longer ruled by authoritarian power.

The Tufeng cycling team officially began their 60-day trans-American journey from the Mayflower in Plymouth.

The cross-America cycling team, led by renowned Chinese explorer Jin Feibao and prominent geologist Fei Xuan under the Tufeng "Ride" the USA banner, can be considered the most luxurious bicycle team in history in terms of both team composition and equipment: TREK all-terrain mountain bikes, VAUDE panniers, TOPEAK tools, ONE POLAR cycling apparel, and more. These high-quality pieces of equipment will aid the team members in completing the over two-month, 5,900-kilometer long journey. Jin Feibao, a famous Chinese explorer who once completed the "7+2" expedition — reaching the world’s seven summits and both poles in record time — said, "This activity is not only a journey to explore American history and culture, but also a challenging cycling feat, and even more so, a people-to-people diplomatic effort to promote friendship between the Chinese and American peoples. I am very grateful for the full support from Tufeng Travel, which has provided us with top-notch team equipment and logistical support. I hope more people will pay attention to this event, and I look forward to seeing many American friends waiting for us at the finish line in Los Angeles."
