The visual feast of Snowflake Beer’s ancient architecture photography competition has kicked off once again; this year’s shooting theme will focus on a unique component of Chinese ancient architecture — the dougong (bracket set). The origin and development of dougong have a very long history. As a detailed structure in Chinese ancient buildings, it showcases remarkable ingenuity in both aesthetics and structure. Whether viewed from an artistic or technical perspective, dougong is emblematic of the spirit and temperament of classical Chinese architecture. On May 18th, following the nationwide launch of the 2015 large-scale brand-themed event “Snowflake Pure Life Craftsmanship Creation” China Ancient Architecture Photography Competition by Snowflake Beer, the Shanghai region also officially commenced.
According to the organizers, participants in the Shanghai division who win specific awards or rankings will receive certificates stamped with the official seal of the “Shanghai Photographers Association,” which can earn bonus points when applying for membership in the association.
Since its inception in 2009, this event has been successfully held for six editions, attracting over two million participants cumulatively and collecting more than 4.7 million works, making it one of the largest photography competitions in China. This year’s competition features two categories: “Ancient Architecture %?? New Talent Award” and “Inheritance · Architectural Atmosphere Award.” The “Ancient Architecture New Talent Award” focuses on capturing the influence of various modern forms on Chinese ancient architecture, aiming to document these impacts through imagery. This isn’t limited to the architecture itself but emphasizes the relationship between architecture and the environment. The “Inheritance · Architectural Atmosphere Award” invites participants to explore and present the cultural heritage and artistic charm of Chinese ancient architecture from their own perspectives. By showcasing architectural details and structural beauty, it conveys the spirit of “craftsmanship creation” and the elegance and texture of ancient structures.
