Hanergy Holding Group is a global clean energy multinational and the world leader in thin-film solar power generation, dedicated to "Changing the World with Clean Energy."

Founded in 1994 with headquarters in Beijing, the company now has 15,000 employees and has established branches in numerous provinces across China and in regions including the Americas, Europe & Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. Its business spans hydropower, wind power, and thin-film solar power generation.

Currently, Hanergy's hydropower projects have a total installed capacity equity of over 6 GW, and its wind power capacity totals 131 MW. In the field of thin-film solar power generation, Hanergy has invested in and built R&D and manufacturing bases for thin-film power generation in Sichuan, Guangdong, Hainan, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Jiangsu, achieving a total production capacity of 3 GW. Hanergy is also developing power station resources globally and has signed agreements for the construction of approximately 10 GW of thin-film power stations with provinces and regions including Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Jiangsu, Hainan, Shandong, and Hebei, as well as multiple countries in Europe. It has become a high-tech clean energy enterprise that integrates the entire industrial chain of thin-film power generation — from upstream R&D and high-end equipment manufacturing, to midstream component production, and downstream power station construction.

Through global technology integration and independent innovation, Hanergy’s thin-film solar power technology has reached internationally leading levels. Currently, Hanergy’s Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) modules have achieved a maximum conversion efficiency of 21%, certified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) in Germany; its Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) modules have attained a maximum conversion efficiency of 30.8%, certified by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), setting a world record for conversion efficiency in thin-film power generation technology. Thin-film power generation technology offers advantages such as flexibility, lightweight construction, excellent performance under low light, color adjustability, and shape moldability, making it widely applicable in areas such as Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), residential power generation, agricultural applications, automotive uses, consumer electronics, general-purpose products, specialized products, and commercial drones.

In February 2014, the results of the "World’s Most Innovative Companies" list by MIT Technology Review — the world’s most influential technology business award — were announced, with Hanergy ranking 23rd and becoming the only energy company in China to make the list.

Thin-Film Power Generation

Thinness and flexibility represent the future and overall trend of the photovoltaic industry. Based on this strategic judgment, Hanergy has focused on the thin-film solar route and has now become the world’s largest and most technologically advanced thin-film solar enterprise.

Thin-film solar cell technology is part of the new generation of solar cell technologies. It offers advantages such as being environmentally friendly, non-polluting, low-cost, having high average power generation, and performing well under low-light conditions. Through proactive industrial layout, Hanergy has developed a full-industry-chain business model encompassing upstream core technology R&D and high-end equipment manufacturing, midstream solar cell module production, and downstream integrated thin-film power generation system solutions.

R&D and Production of Thin-Film Solar Cells

Since entering the thin-film power generation field in 2009, Hanergy has invested in and built multiple thin-film solar R&D and manufacturing bases in Sichuan, Guangdong, Hainan, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Jiangsu. By 2012, Hanergy’s annual thin-film power generation production capacity had reached 3 GW, equivalent to an additional annual power generation of 4 billion kWh — enough to meet the annual residential electricity needs of a city with a population of 10 million. At present, Hanergy has successfully obtained various product certifications including TÜV (for European market needs), CQC Golden Sun (for Chinese market needs), UL, MCS (for UK market needs), EPC qualification certificates, ISO9001:2008 quality management system certification, as well as ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) certifications.

Hydropower

The traditional clean energy sector of hydropower is the foundation of Hanergy’s development. Hanergy has invested in hydropower projects in provinces such as Yunnan and Guangdong. Currently, Hanergy’s total installed capacity equity in hydropower exceeds 6 million kW.

Wind Power

Hanergy began developing wind power in 2000 and currently has a total installed wind power capacity of 131 MW.

Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction

As early as 2005, Hanergy entered the field of emissions reduction management services and established the Hanergy Emissions Reduction and Services Group in February 2012, focusing on greenhouse gas emissions reduction. The business of the Hanergy Emissions Reduction and Services Group centers on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) technical consulting services, supported by voluntary emissions reduction markets (VCM), energy conservation and emissions reduction certifications, and potential investment projects in energy conservation and emissions reduction. It enjoys a high reputation in the industry.

In the CDM field, more than 70 of Hanergy’s developed projects have been approved by China’s National Development and Reform Commission, and over 60 have been successfully registered with the United Nations CDM Executive Board. In the voluntary emissions reduction market (VCM), some projects have undergone verification and certification, with six projects successfully selling Verified Emission Reductions (VERs), bringing VCM income to project owners, and more projects are entering mature development stages.

On June 18, 2013, on the first trading day of the Shenzhen Emissions Exchange — China’s first carbon emissions trading market — Hanergy purchased 10,000 tons of carbon emission allowances, completing the first carbon trade in the Chinese carbon market.
