From July 18 to 19, 2015, the 3rd Eiger Ultra Trail (Eiger Ultra Trail), sponsored by Swiss outdoor brand MAMMUT and held in Grindelwald, Switzerland, attracted nearly 2,000 participants from 49 countries around the world. In the end, after fierce competition, in the 101-kilometer race, the Swiss athleteUrs Jenzerwon the men’s championship with a time of 11 hours, 44 minutes and 30 seconds, while the gold medal in the women’s category went to the French athleteCaroline Chaverot, who finished in 12 hours, 45 minutes and 41 seconds. The male athlete from the MAMMUT professional team,Csaba Német, finished the 101-kilometer race with a time of 12 hours, 35 minutes and 38 seconds, ranking fifth in the men’s overall standings and second in his age group.

The Eiger Ultra Trail was established in 2013, and 2015 marked its third edition, which was also the first time it was included in the UTWT (Ultra-Trail World Tour). As the name suggests, this race has deep ties to the Eiger mountain. Parts of the course pass along the foothills of the Eiger, with some sections offering breathtaking views of the iconic peak, and the stunning beauty of the Alps unfolds along the way. The race is divided into three main distances: 101 km, 51 km, and 16 km, plus there are children’s categories over distances of 350 m and 850 m. The longest distance, 101 km, features an elevation gain of 6,700 meters. Given the unpredictable mountain weather in the Alps, the high altitude, and the technical terrain, the challenge of this race is not to be underestimated even by seasoned professionals.

At 21:00 on the evening of July 18, due to a severe thunderstorm, the 101-kilometer race was temporarily suspended for 2 hours and 15 minutes. Fortunately, the weather improved afterward, and the race resumed smoothly.
