Down is Marmot’s DNA
Down consists of the fluffy, insulating undercoating found beneath the feathers of waterfowl. It’s a multidimensional structure that traps warm air to retain body heat. Highly breathable and extremely comfortable, high-quality down offers the most effective natural insulation by weight. Originally, geese were raised mainly for meat, and down emerged as a byproduct of the food industry. Geese are raised on farms of various sizes, which is their natural environment—they are not confined indoors. They are grain-fed. Marmot currently sources most of its down from Russia, Poland, and China.
Durability
High loft means superior warmth, lightweight feel, and enhanced durability. Our premium down is engineered to last longer than synthetic insulation. With proper care, the gray goose down used by Marmot is designed to have a lifespan of over 25 years, and we regularly see our gray goose down perform well beyond 20 years. Marmot down products are built for comfort and long-term use.
Breathability
Down has exceptional moisture absorption properties, allowing water vapor to pass through easily, helping keep sleepers comfortable without the clamminess often associated with synthetics. With improved breathability, you’ll feel more comfortable when wearing a down jacket during activities or using a sleeping bag. Cleanliness: High-quality down is carefully washed and dried using specially developed machinery and equipment, and undergoes special sterilization treatments to ensure low sensitivity. Once the washing process is complete, the treated product achieves a very high level of cleanliness.
