The 2015 Humanities and Scientific Expedition Team of the Peak Cloud Society at China Agricultural University officially set off

2015Year7Month24In the afternoon, 18 members of the Humanities and Scientific Expedition Team of the Peak Cloud Society at China Agricultural University18once again embarked on their pilgrimage journey,Z21a train would take them to their dream destination — Tibet — where they would carry out a nearly one-month humanities and scientific expedition activity.

As a team that has been repeatedly recognized as an outstanding social practice group in Beijing and is the only university student group in China to have entered Tibet for eleven consecutive years, this year’s activities in Tibet will continue to focus on both humanitarian care and scientific research, with the addition of the Kailash Kora trekking component.

Humanitarian care refers to teaching support in Lhasa. This year marks the ninth year of teaching at the Caquan Special Welfare School in Lhasa. “Delivering the warmth of CAU across a thousand miles, meeting at Peak Cloud’s Tibet journey” — nine years of warmth, with the same heartfelt spirit from the Peak Cloud team. The team members will overcome challenges such as altitude sickness to bring care from the outside world to children with disabilities on behalf of relevant foundations and sponsors. In addition to regular teaching in subjects like Chinese, Math, and English, the team has also prepared small teaching materials themed “Sailing through the Sea of Books,” aiming to spark the children’s interest in learning by recommending classic books, helping to compensate for the limitations of short-term teaching.

Scientific research refers to social surveys. This year’s survey location is Pulan County in Ngari Prefecture. Through preliminary trial research, training, and numerous discussions by the team members, four main themes were ultimately chosen for the investigation: agricultural life, tourism, folk culture, and border trade. It is worth mentioning that with this, the footprint of the eleven-year-old Peak Cloud Society Humanities and Scientific Expedition Team will now cover all four cities and three districts of Tibet. We look forward to the team going even further and having an even brighter future ahead.

As a team that originated from an outdoor club, we chose to add a hiking and trekking component at this turning point of our eleventh year. Mount Gang Rinpoche (Kailash) in Pulan County, as the sacred site of origin for various religions including Bon and Hinduism, attracts numerous tourists every year and has also deeply fascinated the expedition members. We believe that after more than four months of physical training, the team members will surely be able to successfully complete the trekking mission and bring a new meaning to the scientific expedition.

Year after year of traveling to Tibet is a shared dream for all expedition members. May the sweat and tears of these four months finally blossom splendidly this summer. No regrets in the expedition.
