From September 28, 2015, to October 3, 2015, the Sanggan River — the mother river that nurtures the people of Zhuolu — will witness a major event: the Sanggan River Cultural Festival. The ceaseless flow of the Sanggan River has nourished the fertile lands on both banks and given birth to the region’s long-standing culture. It bears the imprints of human progress over millions of years and records the footsteps of anthropologists exploring its secrets. This magical land holds many prehistoric clues related to the survival and development of the Chinese nation.
Ancient civilization originated in Zhuolu. To better inherit Chinese civilization, promote the culture of the Three Ancestors of China, experience folk art, enliven the harmonious atmosphere of the park, and showcase the 5,000-year culinary, artistic, and traditional culture of the Sanggan area, this cultural festival will primarily feature concerts supplemented by a folk street. The concerts will invite several mystery guests and professional bands to perform well-known classic songs for the audience. Folk performance artists will present UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage such as "Rao Hua," ethnic minority song and dance, as well as grassland-style bonfire performances, thereby promoting Zhuolu’s intangible cultural heritage and delivering a grand audiovisual feast. To enhance the fun of the festival, it will include various forms of music, art, and folk cuisine, each featuring a week-long thematic performance.
A wide variety of diverse and entertaining activities will allow more people to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of this cultural festival. Through this event, the public will develop a more profound appreciation of traditional Chinese culture, learn to enjoy life and protect traditions, strengthen their memories of Chinese culture, and play a positive role in shaping a positive national image, enriching spiritual life, and broadening horizons.
Zhuolu in China, as a window connecting Beijing and Zhangjiakou for the Winter Olympics, will showcase a different side of Zhuolu through this inaugural event. In future editions, it aims to build its own experiential cultural system, writing yet another splendid chapter in Chinese traditional culture and national heritage.
