Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, Nov. 10 (Sports) — The world’s premier snowboarding competition “Air & Style” announced in Beijing on the 10th that this year’s event will take place at the National Stadium, the “Bird’s Nest,” from December 4 to 5. Additionally, a special “Red Bull Best Trick Award” will be presented to spotlight the most thrilling moments by competitors during the event.
This will be the sixth consecutive year that “Air & Style” is held in Beijing, attracting 24 of the world’s top snowboarders. He Wai, also known as “Xiao Hu” (Little Tiger), China’s homegrown rider sponsored by Red Bull, will once again compete as the sole official Chinese athlete.
The competition will continue to use a points-based ranking system. The qualification round on December 4 will select 16 athletes to advance to the finals, while December 5 will feature head-to-head knockout matches until the ultimate champion is crowned. Meanwhile, “Air & Style,” known for combining snowboarding competitions with live music concerts, will also invite two mystery guests to perform at the event.
To encourage athletes to push the boundaries in terms of trick difficulty and creativity, this year’s “Air & Style” will award the “Red Bull Best Trick Award” worth $5,000 to the competitor who scores the highest single jump during the entire competition. In addition, the Beijing World Snowboarding Championship of this edition of “Air & Style” has also launched the “First China Air & Style Model Contest” among university students in Beijing to promote this premier event.
