Recently, CCTV9 the outdoor travel program "Ultimate Players" brought its outstanding outdoor sports documentaries filmed over the years to university campuses, organizing documentary screenings at eight universities including Renmin University of China, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), China Agricultural University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Chengdu University of Technology. It also collaborated with the protagonists and creators of the documentaries to engage in deeper sharing and exchanges with university students, successfully holding the first edition of the Ultimate PlayersNational University Sharing Event for Outdoor Sports Documentaries."Ultimate Players" is CCTV9 a documentary program focusing on outdoor sports and personalized travel, highlighting the trendiest and healthiest outdoor lifestyles in China. Its themes cover various outdoor activities such as mountaineering, rock climbing, skiing, cycling, and running. A total of six outdoor sports documentaries were screened in this series of events: "Return to the Summit," "Screams on the Rock Face," "Chasing the Wild," "A Journey to the End of the World," "Cycling in the Clouds," and "Heart of the Ocean."

In recent years, outdoor sports among university students have flourished, and students will be the backbone and an important group in the future of outdoor sports. Outdoor sports can cultivate positive qualities in university students. The Ultimate Players National University Sharing Event for Outdoor Sports Documentaries showcases the charm of outdoor sports through screenings and on-site exchanges with the protagonists, while also spreading outdoor culture, knowledge, as well as correct outdoor perspectives and safety concepts to university students.

Although the screened documentaries are themed around adventure, they actually aim to spread safe and scientific outdoor concepts to university students. Most of the protagonists in these documentaries are leading figures in their respective fields in China. Through the medium of documentary footage, they showcase the allure of outdoor sports to students, then share their own outdoor stories and insights via speeches to promote outdoor safety awareness. Finally, the protagonists engage in Q&A sessions to answer students’ questions.

Protagonist of "Return to the Summit" and principal of Peak Outdoor School, he shared documentaries and gave speeches at Renmin University and the Geosciences University respectively. He recounted his journey from the Mountain Eagle Club to founding Peak Outdoor School, along with his personal growth. Principal Sun told the students that they must have clear dreams—and think about them five times a day. The students were greatly inspired.

Teacher He Chuan finds joy in sports, overcoming fear, staying healthy, and connecting with others through climbing. He shared interesting climbing stories and his life philosophy with the students, telling them to “climb till you’re old!” He also expressed hope to hang out with the students more in the future.

protagonist of "A Journey to the End of the World," a polar exploration enthusiast. Born and raised in Shanghai, he once taught at Fudan University, later pursued graduate studies in the U.S., and worked in finance in New York and Hong Kong. During that time, he took up outdoor sports such as mountaineering and diving, and has been to the South Pole, North Pole, and Mount Everest. He shared many behind-the-scenes stories of filming the documentary and patiently answered every student’s question.

Protagonist of “Riding in the Clouds,” member of the Flyover Cycling Team, with 10 years of cycling experience, specializing in outdoor adventure cycling. Founder of the SLIDE EVIL drift tricycle; passionate AM rider; member of the Extreme DAC DH cycling team; white-water kayaking enthusiast. He not only shares his own story but also teaches students some mountain biking skills and demonstrates them on-site.

Chen Chunshi
Co-creator of “Heart of the Ocean,” director of Ultimate Player, graduated from the School of History at Beijing Normal University. A lover of travel and outdoor adventure, he engages extensively in hiking, cycling, mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing, and skiing, and once founded the BNU Mountaineering Team. Back at his alma mater, besides sharing the protagonist’s story and the making of the documentary, he also shared the history and moments of the mountaineering team.
