On December 15, 2015, the much-anticipated grand opening ceremony of Taiwu Ski Resort — “Soar with Taiwu” — was held in grand style at the resort. The event was attended by Mr. Werner Margreiter, Senior Technical Delegate of the International Ski Federation (FIS); Mr. Wang Zhili, Deputy Director of the Winter Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China; Ms. Wang Chunlu, Head of the Mass Skiing Department of the Winter Sports Management Center; Mr. Wang Zhijun, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Zhangjiakou Municipal People's Congress; Ms. Li Li, Member of the Party Group of Zhangjiakou Municipal Government; as well as leaders from various levels of the Zhangjiakou and Chongli county governments. Over 500 guests from all walks of life were also present, including Ms. Ye Zhaoying, founder of Yes Ski Club, Mr. Sha Baoliang, Ms. Guo Dandan, China’s first freestyle skiing world champion, and many others.
During the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by Mr. Liu Qinghu, Deputy County Magistrate of Chongli County, Ms. Li Li, and Mr. Wang Zhili. They spoke highly of the outstanding design, construction, facilities, services, and management of Taiwu Ski Resort, expressing their belief that the resort would make significant contributions to the Winter Olympics and Chongli’s “white economy.” Following them, Mr. Qi Hong, Chairman of Taiwu Ski Resort, gave the official opening speech and announced the grand opening of the resort.
Located in Chongli, Zhangjiakou, Taiwu Ski Resort lies within the core area of snow competition events for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The resort features Yuyi Liang, the highest peak in Chongli at 2,160 meters, with an elevation drop of 510 meters — the largest in the Chongli region. The ski area was designed by Canada’s ECOSIGN, a company with five Winter Olympic venue designs to its name. Phase one of the resort includes 28 ski runs, offering an optimal beginner-to-intermediate-to-advanced ratio of 3:4:3. It also features four high-speed chairlifts imported from France’s POMA and 11 magic carpets to ensure visitors enjoy skiing to the fullest.
In terms of ski run features, Taiwu Ski Resort boasts Asia’s largest beginner area, the country’s largest area of beginner runs, as well as comfortably designed intermediate and advanced runs of suitable difficulty. Among them, the Waltz and Polka runs meet the technical requirements for men’s and women’s Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom competitions and have been submitted to FIS’ Alpine Skiing Technical Department for certification. The Sasha run meets FIS technical requirements for snowboard and ski cross events.
For ski instruction, the unique Taiwu International Sports Academy employs 30% of its coaches from strong winter sports nations in Europe and North America. All coaches hold internationally certified ski instruction qualifications and offer specialized training courses for students.
When it comes to children’s skiing, Taiwu Ski Resort offers dedicated kids’ ski runs, children’s ski lessons, a children’s cross-country ski adventure park, play areas, and snow tubing — providing both adults and children with endless opportunities to enjoy skiing.
Thanks to these standout features, the YES Ski Club Taiwu Base, the Shenyang Sport University Training Base, and the Chinese Sports Champions Ski Team Activity Base have all chosen to set up at Taiwu Ski Resort. Awards were presented by Mr. Sha Baoliang, Ms. Ye Zhaoying, Ms. Guo Dandan, and Dean Yu Shuxiang of Shenyang Sport University.
After the award ceremony, the audience enjoyed spectacular ski performances. The show included four segments themed “Ancient Skiing Reimagined at Taiwu,” “Prosperous Taiwu with Dragons and Lions,” “Fueling the Winter Olympics with Passion at Taiwu,” and “Sharing Tomorrow, Meeting at Taiwu,” artistically showcasing the allure of winter sports.
In addition, guests were invited to watch the BIG AIR BAG ski jump performance and participate in interactive skiing activities, experiencing firsthand the charm of Taiwu Ski Resort’s internationally standardized slopes.
