The first run of the new year kicks off with the Xiamen Marathon. At 8:00 AM on January 2, 2016, the 2016 Jianfa Xiamen International Marathon—the pioneer of China’s annual gold-label marathon events—started at the Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center. A total of 48,642 athletes from 45 countries and regions joyfully ran along the picturesque course, breathing in the fresh air. In the end, Kenyan athlete Vincent Kipruto won the men's full marathon championship with a time of 2:10:18, while Ethiopian athlete Worknesh Edesa claimed the women's full marathon title with a time of 2:24:04.
