About sports protection, I’d like to take advantage of Kobe Bryant’s retirement to talk about it (Kobe fans, don’t hit me~ friendship can sink in a moment, love can capsize in an instant, haha~). I believe everyone knows about the injuries Kobe has endured. In fact, in the later stages of his career, he needed to do a full set of stretches and targeted protective measures before every game in order to compete. During every timeout, he would ice his knees and shoulders, and after the games, his protection specialist would stretch and relax his entire body.

All these measures and methods are part of sports protection. Broadly speaking, sports protection refers to a series of actions taken to help people perform better in sports while reducing the risk of injury.

Song Xiaorui is from Beijing, with his home at the foot of the Great Wall in Yanqing. During university, he studied sports rehabilitation. After graduating from Beijing Sport University, he joined LP. In 2013, when the company established the LP Sports Protection Academy in Beijing, he became the Training Director. His first sports protection course was tailored for runners, and through teaching, he also learned from them—teaching them protective knowledge, they introduced him to the world of running. Over three years, more courses have been offered, more friends have been made, and seeing how his knowledge helps others brings him great joy.

1.       By the end of 2015, sports protection specialists officially became part of the national occupational classification, proving that our group of professionals providing sports safety support has finally gained recognition from the state and society—we got certified~ haha~ It also indicates that the state is starting to focus on issues such as performance impact and medical expenses due to sports injuries.

2.       Sports protection is not just about choosing what protective gear to wear after an injury. It includes almost all aspects—from prevention before exercising, emergency treatment during activities, to recovery post-exercise. Even assessing sports risks is part of it. The knowledge involved is vast, covering everyone from athletes on the field to fans watching the game. From minor falls and bruises on the sports field to athletes collapsing from shock during competition, it's all included. So as the saying goes, the learning journey is endless; there's still a long way to go, and I’m still on that path.

3.       On the LP Sports Protection Academy platform, I’ve had the fortune of meeting top domestic sports protection specialists. Through conversations with them, we all realized that in China, both the concept of sports protection and the resources invested in this field are still far behind international standards—not only in terms of technical training and practice of protection, but also in the awareness of protection among athletes and the general public, where there is still much room for improvement.

4.       At every running open class held by the LP Academy, it becomes quite obvious that the public's understanding of sports protection still stops at: What do I do if I get injured? But sports protection can do more than that—it can also tell you how to reduce the risk of getting injured in the first place. The more people who know this kind of information, the fewer injuries there will be. In fact, sometimes I joke during class that if one day sports protection specialists are out of a job, that’s even better—because then no one will get injured~~~ so just run wild~
