Keynote speech delivered by David Merlin Willey, Editor-in-Chief of Runner’s World
As the first speaker, David gave a keynote speech titled “RW50Years and the Development of Running in the United States”, where he detailed50Over the years, how the mass marathon and road running movement in the U.S. evolved from an elite sport participated in only by men to a fitness activity accessible to everyone. Following him, Pasa, Zhu Weizhong, and Guo Fengzhou each delivered their own keynote speeches, covering topics such as marathon course design, aerobic exercise and running for health, and the development of ultrarunning in Taiwan.

During the open discussion session, the four guests shared their running experiences and insights on industry development. Zhu Weizhong noted during the discussion that if not approached correctly, running can be a double-edged sword — it can promote health but also cause harm. Therefore, professional athletes must find their own “exercise prescription”. Dr. Pasa, who has long resided in Yunnan, China, also shared his views in fluent Chinese, expressing that today’s runners need not obsess over gear or external factors but should focus more on the essence of the sport: running is just running — very simple.
