According to the organizers — the Beijing Olympic City Development Association andIDGGroup, introduced at today’s press conference — the Winter Expo is an international high-end exhibition initiated by Beijing, focusing on winter sports and the ice and snow industry. It has already gained the support of seven international winter sports federations. The first edition of the Winter Expo will consist of exhibitions, summit forums, and related events, covering various aspects including winter sports, the ice and snow industry, winter tourism, and youth training. Starting from2016, the Winter Expo will be held annually.
As a key project of the municipal government in2016-2022to accelerate the development of ice and snow sports, and in order to implement President Xi Jinping’s directive that““hosting the Winter Olympics will encourage over3million people in China to participate in ice and snow sports,””and to promote the widespread development of winter sports in China, it is planned to build the Winter Expo into an important platform for connecting with international winter sports resources and boosting the development of China’s ice and snow industry within the next5years. This will also help deepen the Chinese public’s understanding of ice and snow sports culture and drive the rapid development of China’s sports industry and winter sports sector.
