At 9:00 AM on March 29, 2017, Luo Jing, recognized as an “outstanding Chinese female mountaineer,” appeared in the special live studio set up by Shenzhen Traffic Radio at the JW Marriott Hotel in Qianhai OCT. To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the radio program “Talent Arrives,” this live event collaborated with CNOOC’s “Yellow Camel” gas stations to support the outstanding Chinese female mountaineer Luo Jing in her quest to conquer her 11th 8,000-meter peak.

Since successfully reaching the summit of Cho Oyu at an altitude of 8,201 meters last October, this send-off ceremony for Luo Jing’s 11th 8,000-meter mountain climb was held here. This event also marked Luo Jing’s signing of a commercial partnership agreement with CNOOC Petroleum, a leading private gas station brand in China. Over the next three years, Luo Jing will serve as the brand ambassador for CNOOC Petroleum and appear in the company’s external promotional events.

After a brief introduction by the host, the highlight of the event — an interview with Luo Jing — commenced, featuring both a session with the host and questions from attending media reporters. On stage, Luo Jing appeared somewhat petite and even fragile, making it hard for many to associate her with the title of “outstanding Chinese female mountaineer.” Under the host’s questioning, Luo Jing shared thrilling stories of her climbs, including how she successfully summited 10 out of the world’s 14 peaks over 8,000 meters within just six years. These included some of the most challenging and deadliest peaks, such as K2 and Annapurna, which are considered more dangerous than Mount Everest. With courage and determination, Luo Jing has relentlessly pursued her mountaineering dreams, and her brave spirit deeply moved the audience. Since 2011, she has been the first Chinese woman to summit Makalu, Kangchenjunga, and Dhaulagiri, the first Chinese woman to consecutively summit Gasherbrum I and II, and the first ever Chinese person to summit K2. Her series of world-class achievements makes her both extraordinary and inspirational, shining as a rising star in the global high-altitude climbing community.

In the new year of 2017, Luo Jing plans to continue climbing the remaining four peaks above 8,000 meters. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the full support she will receive from CNOOC Petroleum along her future climbing journey. As an ordinary mountaineer — not a celebrity — and given that high-altitude mountain climbing remains a niche activity in China with little attention from the public or media, she noted how crucial the backing of major corporations is for promoting outdoor sports and spreading the spirit of mountaineering.

The journey up the mountain is also a journey of the heart. Luo Jing’s interview left a deep impression on all guests present — no matter the circumstances or life stage, one should never give up on their dreams. Not everyone has the courage to pursue what they truly want, nor does everyone have the resolve to stick to their chosen path. Life is short, and one should try more, at least giving one’s heart fully to something they desire — without regrets.

According to a CNOOC Petroleum representative, Luo Jing’s perseverance and her pursuit of great dreams resonate perfectly with the brand philosophy of CNOOC Petroleum. As an ordinary yet committed player in China’s massive retail fuel industry — which includes over 100,000 gas stations — CNOOC Petroleum is dedicated to providing high-quality fuel and a welcoming refueling experience to every consumer, and to supporting every extraordinary customer who is, at their core, just like everyone else. The “Yellow Camel” brand of CNOOC gas stations moves forward steadily, keeps breaking boundaries, and strives to achieve the extraordinary starting from the ordinary. That is exactly why we chose Luo Jing — someone equally ordinary yet exceptional — to be our “Yellow Camel” brand ambassador. Likewise, Luo Jing’s choice of CNOOC Petroleum stems from her recognition of our brand values and spirit. Furthermore, Luo Jing’s daring and courageous spirit will inspire us to keep our feet on the ground while aiming high, building a lasting legacy for a century-old CNOOC. For this event, where we celebrate Luo Jing’s send-off for her 11th 8,000-meter peak climb, we wholeheartedly wish her success and a triumphant summit.

Witnessed by all guests present, Luo Jing and the leadership of CNOOC Petroleum jointly participated in the brand ambassador signing ceremony for CNOOC’s “Yellow Camel” gas stations, and a send-off ceremony was also held for Luo Jing’s climb of her 11th 8,000-meter peak. Leaders of the CNOOC Group and guests at the scene joined together to cheer on Luo Jing’s next ascent.

It is reported that CNOOC Group was founded in 1983, and its subsidiary CNOOC Petroleum started its retail business in 2006. It was the first private oil company in Guangdong Province to obtain government approval for wholesale, retail, and chain operations. Through acquisitions, leasing, equity participation, franchising, and professional gas station management services, the company is committed to developing a professional management enterprise for five-star premium chain gas stations. CNOOC gas stations provide high-quality fuel, sourced from China’s most advanced refineries and enhanced with top-tier additives imported from Europe and America, to over 800,000 loyal members. Professional and enthusiastic CNOOC staff, utilizing a proprietary online-offline integrated intelligent marketing system developed exclusively in the industry, offer customers over 15 million warm and convenient service experiences and smooth refueling annually. In the 2016 Guangdong Province “Top 100 Most Satisfying Gas Stations” evaluation, CNOOC Petroleum claimed seven spots among the top 100. Its gas stations are now spread across cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Shaoguan, Foshan, Qingyuan, Zhaoqing, and Zhaoqing. By the end of 2016, CNOOC Petroleum had managed over 30 chain gas stations in Guangdong Province, with an annual retail volume exceeding 300,000 tons, making it one of the regionally influential refined oil retail enterprises in Guangdong. In the future, the company plans to expand into markets outside the province, establishing branches and sites in central and western inland regions as well as eastern coastal provincial capitals. The company’s first site outside Guangdong Province is also set to grandly open in the first half of 2017.

The signing of Luo Jing as the brand ambassador for CNOOC Petroleum aligns perfectly with the company’s 10-year culture of steady progress and ambitious vision. It will also strive to offer more value-added, high-quality services to consumers who support both Luo Jing and CNOOC Petroleum. The “Yellow Camel” brand of CNOOC gas stations aims to become a competitive national brand, a trustworthy private brand, and a popular brand cherished by consumers.— Also the Brand Ambassador Signing Ceremony for CNOOC’s “Yellow Camel” Gas Stations
