At 8:40 AM Beijing Time on May 20, 2017, KAILAS athlete and Chinese amateur mountaineer Lu Jing successfully summited Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest peak at 8,516 meters, and safely returned to base camp at 3:00 PM on May 21.

On the mountain, Lu Jing is a tough female climber, more persistent and determined than most. Off the mountain, she is an ordinary girl who loves reading, learning, and having fun—she’s the head of the “Madhouse,” a mom, and a good friend to her child. These days, Lu Jing lives a fulfilling and carefree life. “I want to raise my child, learn many things, study languages from many countries, read a lot of books. I don’t want people to think of me as just a woman who climbs mountains.”
It’s easy to say you’ll do something to perfection, but only when you try does the difficulty and dedication become clear. Goddesses aren’t born—they put in more focus and effort than the average person. Lu Jing simply took what she loves and did it to the best of her ability.
She has the strength of a tough woman and the tenderness of a gentle one, embodying a truly elevated form of female awakening—an individual awakening and freedom not swayed by the breeze or anyone else. Step by step, she is shaping a life where she climbs high, thinks deeply, enjoys broadly, and lives widely.
