In the vicinity of Taipei’s busy MRT Liuzhangli Station—home to many specialty eateries—a new high-quality juice and light meal shop has recently opened. Nestled in a quiet alley, Habu Juice stands out with its eye-catching Japanese-inspired minimalist decor and premium homemade food. In this competitive food scene, it has gradually begun to shine, becoming a popular Instagram-worthy dining spot.

Without excessive luxury, the minimalist white Japanese aesthetic features only three tables inside and two bar stools outside. This tiny shop carries the big dreams of two 27-year-old women. The owners explained that they found most cold-pressed juices on the market either unpalatable or unapproachable. They wanted to offer refreshing, flavorful cold-pressed juices and provide a relaxing space for customers. These ideas led them to create their ideal café.

Filled with a relaxing vibe, Habu is tenderly managed by its two owners. Every dish and drink is handmade, with no outsourcing. Their delicious light meals and sweet beverages always convey the care and warmth put into their making. Besides light meals, as winter approaches, the owners thoughtfully offer daily rotating soups to keep customers warm and comforted during the cold season.

The two owners met while working at the same eatery. Sharing common values and visions for food, they pooled their savings from part-time jobs and support from loved ones. With design backgrounds—and assistance from a friend in the design industry—they built the entire café from scratch, conceptualizing and crafting it entirely on their own.

It took two years from planning to opening for Habu Juice to finally debut. The name is inspired by a real port in Japan. The owner said, “In Yasunari Kawabata’s novel The Izu Dancer, the port of Habu is described as fresh and carefree—that’s the atmosphere we want to create here.”

The cold-pressed juices exude natural fruit fragrance upon serving. The owner highly recommends the HABU No. 3 and HABU No. 5. She explained, “Both drinks use seasonal fruits like pomegranate and pear.” HABU No. 3 blends pear, apple, lemon, and guava, while HABU No. 5 features beetroot and pomegranate—each offering unique flavors. To ensure healthy, natural ingredients and food safety, all produce is handpicked by the owners at local markets daily.

Since opening in July 2016, Habu Juice has been operating for less than half a year. The owners noted that although foot traffic is still modest, knowing people enjoy their food brings warmth. “We’ll keep channeling this warmth to offer even more great meals.” Unlike bustling cafés, Habu Juice offers a homely vibe with quality food. Why not visit and cheer on their dream?
