Originally taken as a joke — the Icelandic Phallological Museum houses 286 penises, the longest being 170 cm.

Initially dismissed as a joke, it was later pursued seriously and has now become the world’s most comprehensive phallological museum. When visiting Iceland, in addition to soaking in the Blue Lagoon and enjoying the landscape, this has also become a must-visit attraction for many.

According to the UK's Daily Mail, size isn’t everything, because from massive to miniature, you can find them all here — for instance, the sperm whale penis at the entrance measures 1.7 meters long and weighs seven kilograms.

Opened in 1997, the museum now has a collection of 286 specimens and has broken taboos to become an attraction in the capital, Reykjavik. Visitor numbers have been steadily rising, with over 12,000 tourists visiting in 2011, most of them women. The curator says the museum aims to educate, not to titillate.
