After the start of the dog days, Beijing has been experiencing continuous high temperatures, scorching sun, and stuffiness.

I feel like I’m living in a “stewing pot” every day!

On such hot days, I strongly recommend we go together

to the nearest seaside resort near Beijing—Beidaihe.

Feel the sea breeze, enjoy seafood, play in the sand and splash in the water!

Come on, let’s unlock the 23°C summer fun in Beidaihe together!

So, I packed my backpack and quickly headed to Beidaihe over the weekend. This popsicle that was about to melt finally found a place to settle down and quietly enjoyed the waves of coolness brought by the sea.

The room is clean, spacious, and bright, with two bedrooms, one living room, and one bathroom, suitable for up to four people.

There’s a supermarket inside the community, and a small farmers' market just outside. It’s very convenient for shopping and buying seafood.

Tips:

How to smoothly reach the homestay: After arriving at Beidaihe Railway Station by high-speed rail, take Bus 37 to the Party School Stop (the route of Bus 37 is a bit unusual—it doesn’t stop at most stations along the way. If you need to get off, make sure to go to the door early and press the stop button; otherwise, you’ll definitely miss your stop.)

Step 2 – Start Your Beidaihe Journey

First Stop—Pigeon Nest Park

When you’re in Beidaihe, of course you have to visit this iconic park for sightseeing. Pigeon Nest Park is my top choice for fun!

Nowadays, many pigeons in Pigeon Nest Park will stay near the entrance to forage. Sometimes they act like welcoming greeters, flying low or walking on the ground, playing around your feet or even on your arms.

Recommended Activities at Pigeon Nest Park

Catching Fish in the Shallow Waters

Roll up your pants, step into the sun-warmed shallows, swing your little net to catch small fish, and you might also scoop up hermit crabs and small lobsters~

The scales on the small fish reflect the sunlight, making it hard to spot them in the equally shimmering shallows. Once you see a fish, scoop in the direction it’s swimming toward—master this trick, and soon you’ll have a full haul!

Second Stop—Tiger Stone Park

Tiger Stone Park is a leisure beach bathing spot. The ticket price is cheap, but the main purpose here is to get in the water and have fun. If you can’t swim, just float around with a life ring and instantly cool off—but don’t forget to put on sunscreen.

And me? I perched on a tiger stone like a resting seabird, waiting as the sunset painted the golden coast, then lifted my feet and spread my wings to fly away.

Third Stop—Beidaihe Wetland Park & Shallow Bay

From the accommodation, take Bus 34 to Beidaihe Wetland Park. Breathing in the fresh air here and giving your lungs a cleanse is an excellent experience.

It’s said that Beidaihe Wetland Park is the largest urban wetland in China, home to 412 species of birds, and is known as the “Mecca of birdwatching.” There were birds everywhere—I learned a lot.

Seafood is expensive in restaurants, especially within scenic areas—the prices are more than double what you’d pay at the seafood market! I picked out four crabs, one jin (500g) of mantis shrimp, and three jin of clams at the seafood market not far from the community, spending only 86 yuan. But eating these at a restaurant would cost over 200 yuan!

And the best part of staying in a homestay is being able to cook. This gave me the chance to show off my excellent cooking skills and whip up a delicious seafood feast to treat my taste buds—fully kicking off vacation mode.

On a sweltering weekend, spending a getaway in Beidaihe like this is the perfect way to reward ourselves after days of non-stop hustle and bustle~
