Beautiful floral dresses bloomed brilliantly amid colorful rose bushes, while graceful ballet dancers twirled against the backdrop of blossoms... On the morning of August 10, a special performance consisting of six acts—including song and dance, solo singing, and Peking Opera—kicked offthe "Colorful Daxing · Blooming Charm" Public Culture and Arts Season and the Mass Art Competition. Daxing District will set up a professional stage to discover and cultivate "stars among the grassroots."
Flash mob generates huge buzz
To fully build up hype for the competition, two weeks before its launch, the Daxing District Cultural Commission boldly adopted the globally popular "flash mob" format, staging performances in busy commercial squares. At the flash mobs, professional symphony orchestras, ballet dancers, and square dance performers collided in a burst of vibrant energy, vividly showcasing the thriving development of public culture in Daxing. This flash mob event not only marked Daxing’s first such event but also won over countless fans on-site, garnering extensive media coverage.
No entry barriers, broad participation
As an important part of the "Capital Citizens’ Series of Cultural Activities" and the "Nanhaizi Culture" activity season, this series of events will revolve around four major themes—"Singing Beijing, Dancing Beijing, Artistic Beijing, and Theatrical Beijing"—featuring cultural activities primarily in the forms of songs, dances, folk arts, and traditional opera. There are no entry barriers; participants may include individuals and groups from government agencies, enterprises, industry associations, college students and faculty, as well as residents from local villages and communities. Upholding the principles of public welfare and harmony, as well as the idea of "the masses performing, performing for the masses, and performing about the masses," the event will strive to uncover outstanding works of grassroots art.
The preliminary selection phase runs from August 20 to August 27. Entries will be evaluated by expert judges, with 19 selected to advance to the semi-finals on September 14 and 15. From there, nine finalists will be chosen to compete in the finals.
Professional support behind the scenes
To ensure the event becomes a high-quality artistic competition, offering the public a stage of exceptional caliber distinct from previous ones, and to provide amateur art enthusiasts (and groups) with professional guidance—helping them create original works that reflect the spirit of Daxing New Area and showcase the positive ethos of its people—the event has enlisted three groups under the "China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater": the "Folk Orchestra," "Dance Drama Troupe," and "Orchestra." Additionally, directors and choreographers from national first-class art troupes such as the "Central Ballet of China," "National Peking Opera Company of China," "China National Traditional Orchestra," and "National Theatre Company of China" will lend their expertise to elevate the quality of grassroots performances. Following the launch, the event will unfold through multiple stages including preliminary selection, semi-finals, and finals, presenting the public with a comprehensive showcase of Daxing’s enhanced cultural prowess.

In recent years, with the implementation of the "Capital South Development Action Plan," the rapid growth of Daxing New City and Yizhuang New City, and the completion of Beijing Daxing International Airport, Daxing has entered a phase of vast development opportunities, propelling its cultural sector into an unprecedented era of growth. Following the successful hosting of the 2016 World Rose Convention, Daxing has now entered the post-Rose Era, witnessing vigorous growth in public culture. Coinciding with the district's active efforts to establish itself as a Capital Public Cultural Services Demonstration Zone, local enthusiasm for organizing cultural activities that celebrate the new area and envision its future continues to rise.
