Today, that opportunity has arrived.
Extreme sports such as rock climbing, surfing, skateboarding, and BMX biking are being included in the Olympic competition program for the first time at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
This presents both an opportunity and a challenge for China’s extreme sports scene, as well as a chance for the whole nation to contribute to bringing glory to the country. The General Administration of Sport of China is adopting unconventional thinking and aiming for leapfrog development to rapidly elevate the level of China’s extreme sports. With an open and proactive attitude, it will recruit national team athletes from among 1.38 billion Chinese people and the global Chinese community to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics, bring honor to the country, and fulfill Olympic dreams. This time, we will unite the strength of extreme sports enthusiasts across the nation, view each contestant with a more youthful perspective, and through rigorous selection, systematic training, and fierce competition, identify several top talents from the public to become national team athletes. After even more demanding specialized training and intense domestic and international competitions, they will ultimately step onto the Olympic stage.
We will use China’s extreme sports to reshape the Olympic era, showcase the spirit of Chinese extreme sports to the world, and infuse new vitality into the Olympic spirit. This is the honor and dream of China’s extreme sports.

Registration will be conducted through recommendations by official bodies, schools, social organizations, overseas groups, or self-recommendations by individuals. Applications are accepted via the internet, mail, or in person. Provincial, autonomous regional, and municipal authorities may also compile and submit unified applications to the office.
