The National Day Golden Week is coming. After being busy for most of the year, you finally have a short holiday to relax and explore the world’s mountains and rivers. Traveling isn’t just about experiencing local cultures—it also involves taking a series of beautiful and cool photos as future mementos. Whether it's the rule of thirds, diagonal composition, or leading lines, what makes a good photo most important is its strong visual impact, even conveying emotional tension, which takes a lot of time to develop an eye for.
But now there's a shortcut: using a drone for aerial photography, which completely breaks away from everyday perspectives—allowing even ordinary people to independently capture some exquisite travel photos. Below, I’ll share some of my own insights.
Aerial photography with drones helps you break away from clichéd angles.
Last year during a trip, I saw a few young people playing with a drone and thought it was really cool. After the trip, I wanted to buy one myself. At that time, I was considering the Phantom, but coincidentally, DJI had just launched the “Mavic” Mavic Pro, whose biggest features were foldability and gesture recognition. The seemingly very portable DJI Mavic Pro clearly suited my on-the-go lifestyle better. Recently, DJI released the Mavic Pro Platinum edition, which looks even cooler. More importantly, compared to the previous generation, the upgraded version offers improved battery life and significantly reduced noise, priced at 6999 RMB, with pre-sales already available on the official DJI store. Like smartphones, when buying, go for the latest model to enjoy cutting-edge tech in advance.
With the DJI Mavic, many of my shots have turned out like this:
Climbing at high altitudes is a killer, and although having the DJI Mavic still requires some climbing, it can greatly reduce the height you need to ascend, helping preserve energy.
Even while on the move, the DJI Mavic can capture scenes like this, which even surprised me:
When doing aerial photography during a trip, battery life is crucial. The older Mavic Pro offered 27 minutes, while the new Mavic Pro Platinum has been extended to 30 minutes. Don’t underestimate this increase—every second counts in travel aerial photography, let alone an extra 180 seconds. Only when you actually use a drone do you realize that 3 minutes is longer and more useful than you’d imagine. For recording travel videos, the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum can clearly capture much more.
If you’ve lived in one city for too long, you need to see the world from a new perspective.
Having lived in this city for twenty or thirty years, are you tired of every tree, flower, and scenery around you? Have you lost the ability to feel anything fresh about your surroundings?
Even when I’m not traveling, I like to use the Mavic Pro to document the city I live in—new angles reawaken my fresh perception of it.
The newly built luxury office buildings alongside the old residential communities and the Gongbei Port leading to Macau.
A soccer field near my home—on sunny days, the aerial shots come out lush and green.
The newly released DJI Mavic Pro Platinum is great for urban shooting because it has improved noise reduction—reportedly reducing noise power by 60%, allowing for quiet filming without attracting unusual attention, whether it’s curiosity, envy, or some indescribable emotion. Actually, the regular Mavic Pro I have now isn’t very loud either, so I’m curious just how much better the new version’s noise reduction really is.
Even when shooting at night, the results are quite stunning, and its ability to capture details is strong. It’s said the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum has improved the moiré issue in drone footage, resulting in significantly better image quality. Even my current model still delivers impressive nighttime footage. The new version is even better—what kind of results will it produce?
If you’re also a drone aerial photography enthusiast, feel free to comment and share your experiences—I might reply when I’m in a good mood. And if you’ve bought the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum, I’d love to borrow it for a spin~
