    · Virgin Atlantic launches new passenger sleep guide

· Co-developed with experts from The Sleep Council UK, addressing diet, clothing, scent, and more to help eliminate sleep barriers for travelers

Virgin Atlantic has teamed up with experts from The Sleep Council to combine the airline’s in-flight tips with professional sleep advice, helping passengers drift off easily at 38,000 feet.

Many travelers struggle to sleep during flights, which can lead to jet lag upon arrival and precious vacation time wasted. To tackle this, Virgin Atlantic has created three tailored sleep guides for Upper Class, Premium Economy, and Economy passengers, offering effective sleep tips — including pre-flight preparations, in-flight relaxation methods, and how to smoothly transition into holiday mode after landing.

The most important sleep tips include:

· Adjust your time upon takeoff

One of the top tips recommended by Virgin Atlantic cabin crew is to set your watch to the destination time zone as soon as you take off, and adjust meal times accordingly.

· Food matters more than you think

If you want to catch some shut-eye on the plane, it's best to avoid high-carb meals. Opt for light yet energy-boosting snacks like bananas, nuts, and whole grain cereals.

· Stick to your usual bedtime routine

The Sleep Council advises passengers to maintain their regular pre-sleep habits as much as possible — such as removing makeup, washing your face, and brushing your teeth — as these activities help signal to your brain that it’s time to sleep.

· Clear your mind, drift off peacefully

In partnership with meditation experts from Headspace, Virgin Atlantic offers customized meditation sessions to help passengers sleep better in all cabin classes. Simply plug in your headphones and follow the guided program.

Upper Class passengers can also enjoy a brand-new de Mamiel relaxation treatment in the spas of Virgin Atlantic’s private lounges at London Gatwick, London Heathrow, and New York JFK airports. Developed by de Mamiel founder Annee de Mamiel, this bespoke service blends essential oils, meditation, and touch therapy. Passengers can opt for a 15- or 30-minute session before their flight to help them sleep soundly on board.

Mark Anderson, Executive Vice President of Virgin Atlantic Passenger, said:

“We know how important it is to feel refreshed and energized when you land. By working with experts from The Sleep Council, we’ve gathered the most effective in-flight sleep tips. Whether you have an important meeting at your destination or just want to make the most of your holiday, we want you to enjoy every minute.”

Lisa Artis, PR and Communications Manager at The Sleep Council, pointed out:

“Jet lag happens because your body isn’t ready when you do things. Together with Virgin Atlantic, we’ve provided practical tips to help you get the best possible sleep during your flight. Maintaining good pre-sleep habits and sleeping at the ‘right’ time helps align your body clock with the destination time zone, so you arrive feeling bright and ready.”

Annee de Mamiel, founder of de Mamiel, said:

“Whenever I fly, I use the time to rest properly — whether that’s getting some sleep, relaxing fully, or quietly reflecting. I’ve carefully developed a set of treatments to help passengers quickly step away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and prepare their mind and body to enjoy some precious private time in the air.”
