Virgin Atlantic has introduced a brand-new red limited-edition holiday set of salt and pepper shakers in its Premium Economy cabin.
Virgin Atlantic has named this in-flight salt and pepper shaker set "Wilbur and Orville" (yes, the famous Wright brothers). The usual versions are silver/black and resemble two miniature airplanes. Passengers have fallen in love with them, and even the words "Pinched from Virgin Atlantic" printed at the bottom of the shakers haven’t stopped more and more passengers from taking them home. They’ve even been listed on eBay, selling for as much as £20 per pair.
From December 21 to 26 during the Christmas season, these condiment sets will don a brand-new Virgin Christmas red and make a dazzling appearance on global flights. Virgin Atlantic even encourages passengers to "walk away" with them to adorn their festive Christmas dinner tables or gift them to their aviation-loving friends and family.
Mark Anderson, Executive Vice President of Customer at Virgin Atlantic, said: "Fifteen years ago, when we launched 'Wilbur and Orville,' we had no idea they would become classics and be so beloved by our passengers. Despite our cabin crew keeping a close eye on them, thousands of these shakers have gone missing over the years. Passengers love taking them home as a special memento of their Virgin Atlantic flight. This Christmas, we’ll be introducing a brand-new red limited-edition 'Wilbur and Orville' condiment set across all Virgin Atlantic flights, and we look forward to seeing them in even more homes."
Thoughtfully designed in-flight amenities are one of the features Virgin Atlantic takes pride in; various items onboard carry a unique and distinctive "Virgin" flair. These little treasures hold exceptional sentimental value, which is why passengers can’t help but take them home.
The Virgin Atlantic items most likely to "mysteriously disappear" from the cabin include:
- The "Wilbur and Orville" salt and pepper shaker set
- Mugs in Premium Economy and Upper Class cabins
- Blankets in all cabin classes
- Noble Isle hand soap and lotion in the lavatories
- Cutlery
- Safety instruction cards
- Garbage bags
