Currently, the global pollution situation remains very severe, with the plastic crisis posing a serious threat to the health of humans and other living beings. According to data from the Third United Nations Environment Assembly in 2017, between 4.8 million and 12.7 million tons of plastic waste are discharged into the oceans every year. How to track, collect, and recycle this plastic waste is undoubtedly an important issue in the current and future management of plastic pollution.
The American outdoor brand Marmot, which has always been concerned about environmental issues, has made a new move in its 2018 Spring/Summer collection — launching an eco-friendly series of T-shirts aimed at contributing to the global environmental cause.

MARMOT×THREAD — Making More Responsible Products for the Earth
While ensuring the provision of safe, high-performance products for outdoor enthusiasts and lifestyle aesthetes, Marmot has always strived to minimize its impact on the planet. Undoubtedly, the 2018 Spring/Summer eco-friendly series of T-shirts produced in collaboration with the sustainable textile company thread is based on this philosophy.
2.25 Plastic Bottles = 1 MARMOT Eco-Friendly T-Shirt
Each 2.25 plastic bottles can be used to make one Marmot eco-friendly T-shirt. Each T-shirt is made from 50% recycled cotton and 50% recycled plastic bottles. In other words, this eco-friendly T-shirt series gives those cotton scraps and recycled plastic bottles a second life in the form of yarn. It not only saves a significant amount of water but also has a positive impact on the environment.
Turning plastic bottles into T-shirts may sound too simple and even raise doubts. How exactly are they made? Beyond turning plastic bottles into something useful, what else makes them commendable? We always hope they can do more and do better.
Providing 1,300 Jobs in Haiti
The plastic bottles used to produce the eco-friendly T-shirts come from the streets of Haiti in Africa. People collect the bottles and sell them to local recycling centers to earn money to support their families and help preserve Haiti’s environment. The collected bottles are sorted and processed uniformly, turned into eco-friendly yarn, shipped to the United States to be made into fabric, and ultimately become the clothing we wear.
If the various problems caused by poverty are already regrettable, then ensuring that workers can live and work with more dignity is one of the goals entrepreneurs must continually strive for. Fortunately, Marmot has been doing just that. The eco-friendly T-shirts produced by Marmot and Thread have provided over 1,300 jobs in Haiti, and all workers receive fair wages and work in safe environments.

Better Wearing Experience
① The patterns on the clothing are all printed with non-toxic ink, which poses no health risks and ensures greater safety and peace of mind for the wearer.
② The combination of 50% recycled cotton and 50% polyester fibers allows the T-shirt to maintain the softness and skin-friendliness of cotton while also drying faster, thus enhancing overall comfort.
It can be said that the Marmot 2018 Spring/Summer eco-friendly T-shirt may carry more significance than just being a T-shirt.
