Women of the new century have evolved into all-powerful queens, while also placing greater emphasis on self-investment. With the upgrading of women’s lifestyles and spending power, the “she economy” in the sports market has risen strongly, with both domestic and international traditional sportswear brands actively tapping into this blue ocean of the women’s sports market.

Spending ¥1,141 annually, surpassing men

The influence of the “she economy” is growing stronger. According to statistics, by 2019, the female economy market size in mainland China is expected to reach ¥4.5 trillion.

And the “girl power” that queens invest in their own health and body management should not be underestimated.

According to media reports, in 2016, the average Chinese woman spent ¥1,141 on sports gear, surpassing the ¥1,081 spent by male consumers in the same period. Research shows that the top 10 sports most participated in by women include running, badminton, fitness, and others, with an average of 5.2 types of sports being followed by each woman.

In 2017, women-specific running events also increased significantly. For example, on November 5, there were three women-only half-marathon events: the Panzhou International Women’s Half Marathon in Guizhou (half marathon, 1,500 participants), the Suzhou International Women’s Half Marathon (half marathon, 3,000 participants), and the Chongqing International Women’s Half Marathon (half marathon, 2,700 participants).
