AirAsia today announced the launch of a new direct Shenzhen-Cebu route, with its inaugural flight scheduled for May 9, 2018 (departing from Cebu). This new route is AirAsia’s first direct connection from mainland China to Cebu, the second-largest city in the Philippines, and is an exclusive route from Shenzhen. Once launched, flights will operate daily.

AirAsia prepares to launch direct Shenzhen-Cebu flights

To celebrate the launch of the new route, AirAsia is offering promotional fares, with one-way tickets from Shenzhen to Cebu starting as low as RMB 88,* available for booking on the AirAsia website www.airasia.com and the AirAsia mobile app, with booking open from midnight on April 12, 2018, to April 22, 2018, and travel dates from May 9, 2018, to October 27, 2018.

This new direct Shenzhen-Cebu route is an AirAsia exclusive and becomes the airline’s fifth route from Shenzhen, following Shenzhen-Kuala Lumpur, Shenzhen-Bangkok, Shenzhen-Sabah, and Shenzhen-Kuching. It is also AirAsia’s first route connecting Shenzhen to the Philippines.

Ms. Kathleen Tan, AirAsia’s Regional CEO for China, commented on the new route: “I’m very excited to introduce the Shenzhen-Cebu direct route. This exclusive route greatly shortens the distance between Shenzhen and the Philippines’ second-largest city. Cebu is a vibrant hub where Eastern and Western cultures blend harmoniously. Beyond the stunning seaside tropical scenery, its rich colonial and religious heritage, along with Filipino cuisine, are calling out to busy people in Shenzhen and surrounding areas. I believe that with the launch of this route, Cebu will become the next must-visit destination for trendy travelers from Shenzhen.”

Known as the “Queen City of the South,” Cebu is the second-largest city in the Philippines and one of the earliest developed cities. As a world-class tourist destination, Cebu boasts abundant island-hopping and diving resources. The Kawasan Falls, Bantayan Island scenery, and the sardine run at Moalboal are all famous attractions. From Cebu, travelers can take boats to Bohol to explore underwater faults or dive with whale sharks in Dumaguete—attractions that are hugely popular among divers. Lucky visitors may even get to cruise the seas in a bangka boat accompanied by dolphins.

The AirAsia Shenzhen-Cebu direct route is operated by AirAsia Philippines, with flight code Z2, using Airbus A320 aircraft. After arriving in Cebu with AirAsia, travelers can also use the domestic network in the Philippines to connect to cities such as Manila, Davao, and Puerto Princesa (Palawan), making it easy to explore the whole country.
