TianTong-1 01 — China’s first independently developed mobile communication satellite, launched successfully in August 2016. After nearly two years of effort, China Telecom has launched commercial services for the first time, marking the arrival of the “mobile phone era” in China’s satellite mobile communications. This breakthrough fills the domestic gap in self-developed mobile communication systems and ends reliance on foreign satellite mobile services, representing a major milestone. Shenzhen Tianhai World Satellite Communication Technology Co., Ltd. had the honor of being the first launch partner, offering nationwide TianTong-1 satellite phone registration and top-up services, and witnessing this historic moment.
The ground services of TianTong-1 are operated by China Telecom Corporation Limited, working together with ground mobile communication systems to form a unified mobile communication network. The Satellite Communications Branch of China Telecom Corporation Limited and Shenzhen Tianhai World Satellite Communication Technology Co., Ltd. are also working intensively to launch the first domestically produced full-network + satellite phone. This compact, portable device supports mobile satellite communication, enabling seamless real-time communication with family and friends no matter how remote your location — finally breaking the foreign monopoly on satellite phones.
