A new banknote unveiling might not sound exciting to many, but Norway’s recently released bills have generated a lot of anticipation because their designs are full of artistic flair and Nordic charm！

According to the Lonely Planet website, at the unveiling event in Oslo, the Norwegian central bank launched five banknotes. Dubbed “the world’s most beautiful banknotes,” they tell the story of a nation that lives in close connection with the sea. Each bill showcases a different theme. Although Norway does not use the euro, these stunning kroner notes are highly coveted！

For example, the 50-krone note features the Utvær Lighthouse, built in 1900. The bank explains that the sea has always been the lifeblood of Norway’s economy and society. The 100-krone note depicts the Gokstad ship, the largest preserved Viking ship in Norway, built around the year 900 and discovered in 1880. The 200-krone note shows a codfish, with herring and fishing nets visible in the background—fisheries have long been a major source of income for the country. The 500-krone note highlights the rescue vessel RS 14 “Stavanger,” which served for 37 years, saving numerous ships and lives, symbolizing Norway’s resilience and determination. The 1000-krone note portrays ocean waves, representing the driving force that propels Norwegians forward.

These five new banknotes will begin circulating between 2017 and the end of 2019.
