The 2018 China Climbing League (Lanzhou Anning) “Gansu Jiantou First Construction Cup” event grandly opened on June 15, 2018, at Renshou Mountain in Anning District, Lanzhou. With the theme of “Climbing? Without Limits,” the league invited over a hundred professional climbers from 10 national training teams and 5 top-tier clubs across the country to compete over three days for medals in events including speed climbing and all-around competitions. Coinciding with the Dragon Boat Festival, to better integrate the event with the holiday and enhance the experience and participation value of the league, the organizing committee specially arranged a series of colorful climbing-related activities. These included the “Campus Band” Battle, “Climb Upward Together” Couple Climbing, Wall Treasure Hunt, Climbing Cosplay Show, Himalayan Mountain Film Screening, Helium Balloon Release Theme Activity, Stylish Climbing Performances, and a Family Carnival. These allowed residents of Lanzhou not only to enjoy high-level climbing competitions nearby but also to participate, experience the thrill and excitement of climbing, and join in the festive celebrations.
Among the climbing-themed series of events, the “Campus Band” Battle was the most popular. Participants from university clubs, bands, and individuals took the stage during breaks in the climbing competition to perform, interpreting the charm of music in a youthful way and delivering a musical extravaganza to the audience, creating a vibrant clash between climbing and music. Following that was the Climbing Cosplay Show, where college cosplay clubs presented a cool cultural performance, organically combining with the sport of climbing to promote its appeal among young people.
The interactive activities “Climb Upward Together” Couple Climbing and the Wall Treasure Hunt were highly entertaining and challenging. “Climb Upward Together” Couple Climbing, a favorite climbing experience for young couples, saw them supporting and helping each other to overcome difficulties and climb upward together to the finish line. There were failures and successes along the way, but most importantly, they gained care and affection from each other, as well as a deep mental connection. The Wall Treasure Hunt was also immensely popular, drawing enthusiastic participation from the audience. Contestants showed off their skills on the climbing wall, making the competition both fun and thrilling.
In addition to the above highlights, the Himalayan Mountain Film screenings and stylish climbing performances offered audiences a unique outdoor experience, allowing them to feel the beauty and excitement of summer in the great outdoors. The helium balloon theme activity gave spectators a taste of romance on Renshou Mountain amid the intense competitions, providing a moment to make heartfelt wishes. The Family Carnival encouraged parent-child families to join hands and enjoy the fun of sports together.
The series of events at the 2018 China Climbing League Lanzhou Anning Station closely integrated a top-level national competition with public fitness activities, greatly enhancing participation among Lanzhou residents. It promoted the spread of climbing and climbing culture in Lanzhou and even across the nation, allowing everyone to truly appreciate the charm of integrating lush mountains and green waters with outdoor sports.
