Michelin-starred eatery shuts down！Tim Ho Wan branch ceases operations

Dubbed the world’s cheapest Michelin restaurant, the Tim Ho Wan outlet at Taipei’s Uni-President Times Mall in Xinyi District has closed due to lease expiration, and the brand has decided to relocate the store to CITYLINK at Songshan Station. The reason for not renewing the lease was simply its expiry, and limitations posed by the department store space and kitchen equipment were not aligned with Tim Ho Wan’s brand identity.

The Uni-President Times Mall store was Tim Ho Wan’s only food court-style outlet, featuring fewer seats and a limited menu. Restricted by the department store space and kitchen equipment, it could not offer steamed or fried dim sum items. This not only clashed with Tim Ho Wan’s brand identity, but also contributed relatively less to overall revenue.

Currently, Tim Ho Wan Taiwan operates a total of nine outlets. In addition to the newly opened Songshan Station branch, the brand is actively seeking new locations for expansion, with steady growth in revenue across all outlets—even requiring wait times during non-peak hours on regular days.

The newly opened Songshan Station branch debuts with a new store format, featuring six-person shared table meals and Good Fortune Dim Sum Afternoon Tea. This marks a new initiative in Tim Ho Wan’s four years in Taiwan, offering a chance to try the rumored Four Heavenly Kings of Hong Kong dim sum in one go: crispy BBQ pork buns, pork liver sausage rolls, smooth Malay cakes, and pan-fried radish cakes.
