Harry Potter’s Magic Platform! A New Attraction at the Hualien Underground Station

To boost local development and tourism, the Railway Bureau planned and constructed the Linrong Shin Kong Station in Fenglin Township, funded through private donations. Upon its opening, the station set three national firsts, including “the first simplified station to accommodate Puyuma trains,” “the first station funded entirely by private donations,” and “the first underground station in the Hualien-Taitung region.”

The underground platform features wall-mounted waiting spaces. Inside the underground concourse, there's no sense of stuffiness or darkness. The ceiling is designed with eight circular skylights and two linear skylights on each of the north and south sides, allowing for natural lighting and smoke ventilation—eliminating the need for air conditioning while keeping passengers cool.

Linrong Shin Kong Station is located right in front of the main gate of Zhongxing Farm in Fenglin Township, Hualien. As soon as you step off the train, you can feel the fresh farm atmosphere. The station’s black structure is highly visible, surrounded by green space, with three white membrane-covered atriums in front.

The design of the station body extending from the underground floor to the ground level uses a full wall of transparent glass, giving the overall shape the appearance of a pair of wings soaring. The Linrong Station, abandoned for 36 years, was revived over a six-year period. Although classified as a simplified station, it was built to the specifications of a first-class station. The design incorporates many clever elements and a strong sense of fashion, earning it the title of Taiwan’s most luxurious simplified station among netizens.
