Breathtaking night views are rare treats. In Taoyuan, when it comes to night scenery, Dagu Mountain, Rugu Mountain, Hutou Mountain, and the slightly less well-known Dongyan Mountain are definitely on the list. The first two mountains even have several atmospheric landscape restaurants—during the day you can watch planes soar across the sky, and at night you can soak in the romantic atmosphere. Hutou Mountain may have fewer dining options but is conveniently close to the city. This holiday, why not head to Taoyuan for some stunning night views?

Rugu Mountain

Rugu Mountain stands at an elevation of over 400 meters and is the highest point in Longtan, Taoyuan. From the summit, you can even see Taipei 101 as well as the landscapes of Guishan and Linkou. There are many unique restaurants on the mountaintop, making it a great spot for friends or couples to gather.

Dagu Mountain

Located in Lujhu, Taoyuan, Dagu Mountain features specially designed walking trails and observation decks. In spring and autumn, you can watch eagles soaring and enjoy the night views while taking in distant sights of Taoyuan, Nantou Plateau, and the seaside in Dayuan, along with the takeoffs and landings at Taoyuan Airport.

Though not particularly high, Dagu Mountain has no tall mountains blocking the view, allowing for vistas of Bali, Guanyin Mountain, Taoyuan Airport, the high-speed rail, Dayuan Zhulai Fishing Port, Nantou Night Market, and even Hukou in Hsinchu County. The mountain already attracts many teenagers and couples for night views, and since the viewing platform was completed three years ago, it’s become even more accessible. The night views from Dagu Mountain can definitely rival those of Yangmingshan in Taipei.

Hutou Mountain

When it comes to night view spots in Taoyuan, many people rank the 251-meter-high Hutou Mountain at the top. The 2.5-hectare environmentally friendly park on the mountain allows for panoramic night views of the greater Taoyuan area. Its proximity to the city makes it a favorite for nearby residents to take evening walks. Although it doesn’t have as many landscape restaurants as the other two spots, there are still some mobile food trucks offering simple drinks like coffee.

Dongyanshan

Located in Fuxing District, Taoyuan, the Dongyanshan Forest Recreation Area is part of the tail end of the Snow Mountain Range. Covering an area of nearly 1,000 hectares, the park boasts an expansive sea of cryptomeria trees, and features 16 kilometers of forest bathing trails that offer a refreshing hiking experience. The highest point in the park is Dongyanshan, which stands at an elevation of 1,212 meters. From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Tamsui River, Sanxia, and Taoyuan, making it a great spot to admire the night scenery of Taoyuan.
