Taiwanese container houses make the list: Asia’s top five container markets

Not only has Taiwan seen a surge in container market fever, but other Asian countries also boast unmissable container malls, including those in Thailand, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Among them, South Korea is home to the world’s largest container mall—not just a great place to shop, but also a popular photo spot.

1. South Korea - COMMON GROUND
Located in Seoul, COMMON GROUND is a multi-use container shopping district made up of 116 containers, covering an area of 1,200 pyeong (approximately 3.96 million square feet), making it the largest container mall in the world. It frequently hosts cultural and art events and has even served as a filming location for popular K-pop group TWICE’s advertisements, attracting many tourists and couples to visit.

2. Taiwan – UNO Container Market
Located in Taichung, the “UNO Market” is situated next to the Taichung Big City Department Store, with over 30 vendors, including food stalls, creative handicrafts, and numerous installation artworks, challenging the title of Taiwan’s largest container market. Among them is a gashapon machine designed in the shape of a container, which quickly became a viral social media sensation.

3. Thailand – ART BOX Container Market
A highly popular container market trend in Asia recently, the most well-loved in Bangkok is ArtBox. Not only is it fun to explore, but it’s also extremely photogenic. The market features a wide array of handmade crafts and food stalls, and every edition of ArtBox is designed with a strong aesthetic appeal, making it both enjoyable and Instagram-worthy. ArtBox appears in pop-up form, with event times and locations announced on its official platform.
