“We hope that when guests step into the shop, it’s like stepping through a magic portal and traveling around the world.” Not far from Exit 2 of the Taipei Metro Tian Gong Station, a cafe called Anywhere Cafe & Travel (任意门旅行风咖啡厅) opened in April 2016. Despite its small space, the cafe features four distinctly different international interior styles paired with authentic local cuisines from around the globe, making you feel as if you’ve been transported to various parts of the world. Thanks to its great atmosphere and delicious food, it has become a much-talked-about cafe in just half a year since opening.

Nordic, American, French, or British? Where would you like to go today? In this Taipei cafe, you can experience the rich local flavor of these places without spending on expensive plane tickets. Anywhere Cafe & Travel is co-managed by Ryan, who was discharged from military service last year, and Patrick, a flight attendant. Ryan said that since both of them love traveling abroad, they wanted to bring the atmosphere they experienced back to Taiwan to share. “That’s how we came up with the idea of opening a cafe that combines design and travel, with an ambiance inspired by different countries.”

Ryan, who graduated from a design department, combined his interest in design with references to foreign websites to create this international-themed cafe together with Patrick. In order to present the foreign vibes they experienced more completely, from utensils to furniture, many items in the shop were personally selected by Ryan and Patrick during their travels around the world and then brought back to Taiwan across the ocean. ningtan0828 ▲ Ryan mentioned that the serving ware used for

Anywhere Cafe & Travel is currently run by just two 25-year-old owners along with three employees—just a small team of five people keeping the place going. Despite the small staff size, their dedication to providing a great experience for customers is anything but small. Ryan says, “Although it will still be a while before we break even, we’re already planning to open a second branch within two years.” Their hope is to allow more people who can’t travel abroad to enjoy global cuisines without leaving Taiwan.

From the decor to the food, you can strongly feel the owners’ thoughtful touch. In addition, Anywhere Cafe & Travel also offers an incredibly considerate service: Ryan mentions that the shop sells blank postcards from various countries. Customers can choose their favorite designs, write on them, and hand them over to the staff. Patrick, who works as a flight attendant, will then help mail the postcards back to Taiwan from the countries he visits during his flights. “This way, the postcards customers receive are actually mailed from abroad, giving them a more special feeling.”

As their travel footprints expand to more destinations, Ryan and Patrick will continue seeking culinary inspiration through their journeys, striving to bring customers more delicious food and an international vibe.
