Summer vacation is the perfect time to travel. Taoyuan’s Guanyin District cultivates many lotuses, and in midsummer, these blossoms sway gracefully in the breeze, becoming a scenic highlight of the area. The 2018 Taoyuan Lotus Festival kicked off on June 30. In addition to enjoying the beautiful sight of blooming lotuses, visitors can also have the rare opportunity to experience floating on a giant water lily.

Located in Guanyin, Taoyuan, Kangzhuang Lotus Garden opens its giant water lilies to visitors for floating experiences every July to September. Native to the Amazon River basin, these water lilies can grow up to three meters in diameter. Their large leaves have impressive buoyancy — by placing an acrylic or plastic basin on top, they can support a weight of approximately 150 kilograms, making for a truly surprising and fun experience.

In addition, Taoyuan’s expansive seas of blooming lotus flowers are at their most beautiful during this season, attracting numerous visitors each year. The striking pink lotuses, rising unstained from the muddy waters, set against the backdrop of giant water lily leaf floating activities, are sure to become a popular summer photo spot.
