Flower Viewing in Kaohsiung Is Heating Up: Bougainvillea and Tabebuia Bloom in Brilliant Colors

As the cherry blossom season draws to a close and the weather warms up, spring trees begin to bloom vibrantly with the changing seasons. In Kaohsiung, a city garden, colorful blooming trees create distinctive mini flower seasons across different districts — now is the perfect time for flower viewing in Kaohsiung. The crimson Tabebuia impetiginosa is currently in full bloom along the Zhongzheng River, Zhongzheng Road, and Xingfu River, where its bell-shaped pink flowers adorn the branches one after another, rivaling the beauty of cherry blossoms and adding a romantic touch to the spring. The elegant South Sea Rose, also known as Tabebuia rosea, can be found in the Weiwuying Metropolitan Park and around the shores of Chengcing Lake. Clusters of light pink buds hang densely from the branches, and when the spring breeze blows, the fluttering pink petals create a breathtaking scene that enchants all who enjoy the beautiful spring scenery.

The neem tree, which presents different charms in each season, is now dotted with small white flowers with purple centers on its branches. Its delicate fragrance lingers in the air, and from a distance, its graceful form resembles cherry blossoms. Take a stroll under the neem trees in the Workers’ Park and Weiwuying Metropolitan Park, and you’ll be greeted by waves of aromatic scents. In the mild month of March, the strikingly red cotton trees and flame trees are also eye-catching. Straight clusters of cotton trees can be found along the side of the Macau Road near the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Qingfeng Road and Demin Road in Nanzih District, and within Zhongzheng Park. Their bright reddish flowers, resembling a setting sun, hang from bare branches as birds flit about collecting nectar. Outside the Moonlight Mountain Tunnel in Shanlin, the broad bell-shaped flowers of the flame trees grow densely at the tips of the branches, looking from afar like burning fireballs, showcasing the vitality and passion of Kaohsiung’s mountainous areas along rural roads.

The splendid spring colors of Kaohsiung fill bustling streets such as Chengqing Road, Zhongzheng Road, Minsheng Circle, Shida Boulevard, and Zhongshan 4th Road, as well as the Purple Bamboo Park in Zizhu Temple in Neimen District. The bougainvillea is in full bloom, its vibrant clusters of multicolored flowers exuding lively vitality and creating a richly colorful urban landscape.
