Foreign tourists love this place most！Ranking of popular tourist spots in Japan

A well-known international travel comparison website recently released the results of the ranking of Japan’s top 30 attractions for 2018. Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto, famous for its “Senbon Torii” (thousand torii gates), has topped the list for five consecutive years. Additionally, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island, known for its ocean torii gate, ranked second and third respectively.

The ranking of Japan’s top 30 attractions was derived from analyzing articles shared online by foreign tourists. Eight of the top ten are located in western Japan, indicating that foreign tourists have a much stronger preference for sightseeing in western Japan than in eastern Japan.

According to the ranking results, Kyoto is the most popular prefecture in terms of popularity. Osaka, also in western Japan and a well-known tourist destination in Japan, did not have any attractions make the list. Meanwhile, there are six attractions from eastern Japan on the list, with Shinjuku Gyoen ranking highest, while Senso-ji Temple with its famous Thunder Gate is ranked 16th.
