Captain America was here too for a shoot: A one-day tour of Keelung’s five most stunning scenic spots

Located at Taiwan’s northernmost tip, Keelung — known as the “City of Rain” — often gives off the impression of being constantly overcast with numerous large ships docked along its shores. But beyond that, there are plenty of worthwhile places to visit and photograph. Here are five must-see spots, one of which even served as the filming location for an ad starring Captain America actor Chris Evans, making it perfect for a one-day trip.

1. Agena Shipyard
Situated next to the Heping Bridge on Peace Island, the Agena Shipyard is a century-old historical site in Keelung. With its exposed cement pillars, irregular steel reinforcements, and weathered walls, the area exudes a sense of history and artistic charm. It’s not only a popular spot for photos but also served as the filming location for an ad starring Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, during his visit to Taiwan.

2. Daping Coast
Located near the breathtaking WanYou Valley Trail, Daping Coast is a hidden gem tucked beneath WanYou Valley. After millennia of wave erosion, it has formed impressive marine terraces, along with wonders such as sea caves and tofu rocks. Paired with endless ocean views and sunsets, its scenery rivals that of Shimen’s Laomei Green Reef.
 
Public Transport: Take bus 103, get off at Badouzi Station, walk to the end of Badouzi Street, turn left onto Yugang 1st Street, pass behind the oil depot, and enter via the path on the right side of the breakwater.

3. WanYou Valley
WanYou Valley is a hidden natural wonder where standing atop a high vantage point and gazing down at the lush valley can help you forget all your worries. By walking along the Badeozi Coastal Park Trail, you can gaze across the water at Keelung Islet. At night, enjoy the sparkling fishing boats on the sea and the illuminated mountain city of Jiufen.
 
Transportation: National Freeway 1 → Nuannuan Interchange → Freeway 62 toward Shen’ao → Provincial Hwy 2 toward Badouzi → Pinglang Bridge → National Museum of Marine Science and Technology → Badou Street → Yugang 3rd Street → Yugang 1st Street → Badouzi Oil Depot.
