Hakamokuya, a well-established local cake shop with over 20 years of history, announced that it would cease operations entirely starting in May due to long-term losses, leaving its loyal customers heartbroken. The brand value of Hakamokuya has been recognized by several food industry players, and it was ultimately acquired by PX Mart for NT$792 million, aiming to challenge Taiwan’s largest freshly baked pastry retail network.

PX Mart’s bread business is in collaboration with Japan’s Hankyu BAKERY, and currently only a few stores sell freshly baked bread under this partnership. To increase customer visit frequency, the acquisition of Hakamokuya is intended to expand the range of freshly baked products and move upstream in the baking supply chain.

PX Mart’s acquisition only includes the company, factories, and brand, not the current retail outlets. By directly acquiring Hakamokuya, which meets food factory standards, PX Mart accelerates its layout in the baking supply chain. In the future, after launching its own freshly baked production lines, PX Mart’s bakery offerings will not only focus on affordability but also aim to deliver great taste.
