A vast hollyhock sea blooms for free—discover a new flower-viewing gem in a thousand-square-meter garden

Besides visiting Yuanlin in Changhua and Xuejia in Tainan to admire hollyhock seas, there’s also a new hollyhock secret spot along Shiliugugong Avenue in Hualien City. The flower sea spans over a thousand square meters of land around Shiliugugong Avenue and is currently in full bloom, with blue skies, white clouds, and rolling mountains in the background—creating a spectacular and beautiful scene.

Shiliugugong Avenue, which was opened to traffic only in recent years, was built to alleviate east-west traffic flow in Hualien City and shorten travel time into the urban area. Along the Meigou Bridge, the surrounding farmland includes rice paddies and vegetable fields, with one large plot of over 1,700 square meters planted entirely with hollyhocks.

The land was originally privately owned but, after the owner agreed to hand it over to Hualien City Government for free maintenance, it was carefully planned and transformed into a hidden garden gem in the city. Hollyhocks, also known as "one-zhang red," can grow up to 1–2 meters tall and typically bloom around the Dragon Boat Festival, with pink hues being the most common. Stepping into the garden feels like entering a maze of blossoms.
