Japan’s Largest Scale Ever: Thousands of Hydrangea Varieties Bloom at Huis Ten Bosch

As early summer arrives, hydrangeas begin to bloom in vibrant colors. Huis Ten Bosch, home to Japan’s most extensive collection of hydrangea varieties—with around 1,250 types—holds its annual Hydrangea Festival every year. The event officially kicks off in June and continues through July, offering a one-month floral spectacle where visitors can immerse themselves in a kingdom of flowers.

This year, Huis Ten Bosch has introduced a new highlight in the Palace Area—the “Hydrangea Wall.” A stunning wall, 2 meters high and 10 meters long, is covered with sky-blue and pink hydrangeas, creating a magnificent floral display under soft lighting that has become a must-visit photo spot.

The park has planned five major highlights: the Music & Hydrangea Square, Hydrangea Road, Hydrangea Hotel, White Hydrangea Road, and Hydrangea Market. Among these, Hydrangea Road and the Market are illuminated at night, adding an even more enchanting atmosphere to the sea of blossoms.

Located in the garden restaurant “Amsterdam Plaza,” the Music & Hydrangea Square allows visitors to enjoy both music and cuisine. Hydrangea Road stretches 800 meters, making it the longest in Japan, and features a variety of hydrangea blooms along the shaded pathways near the palace.

At night, the hydrangeas are lit up, casting a magical glow that enhances their beauty and creates a fantastical ambiance.
