Lily fields in full bloom—enjoy the beauty of bridges amid lakes and mountains

After the start of summer each year, it’s the season for lilies to blossom. The Baishihu area in Neihu boasts pristine water quality and fertile soil, making it highly suitable for lily growth. On the other side of the Baishihu Suspension Bridge lies a heart-shaped pond surrounded by ironclad lilies in full bloom, looking stunningly beautiful.

The name Baishihu comes from the quarry established by early settlers in the lower reaches of the mountainous area, known for its pure white sandstone. The naturally formed mountain basin is referred to as a “lake.” The ironclad lilies at the Heart-Shaped Pond differ from Taiwan lilies, which have wine-red stripes on their petals and sepals—the former are entirely white both inside and out, with broader and shorter leaves. Their blooming period can last 2 to 3 weeks, and those who stay here for a while can also enjoy the wafting fragrance.

Late May is the best time to admire the blooming lilies. The ironclad lilies around the Heart-Shaped Pond have begun to bloom one after another. Their pure and elegant white, trumpet-like flowers play the prelude to summer, swaying gently with the lotus leaves. One can imagine how breathtaking the first blooms of the lotus flowers will be. The floral spectacle can continue until June, making it a great destination for a holiday outing.
