Super Dreamy! Yilan’s Rainbow Wooden Cabins & Colorful “Water Chapel”

Does such a Sky Island really exist in this world — a dreamy place far, far away from the hustle and bustle? In Yilan’s Jiaoxi, there’s a homestay named “The Little Wooden Cabins on Sky Island.” Eight colorful cabins are nestled in green rice fields. When you look up, a vast sky spreads out above, and it feels as if you could reach out and catch the clouds. The cabins form their own peaceful haven, removed from the noise of the world, making you feel as though you’ve stepped into another time and space. It’s a dreamy escape for city dwellers seeking tranquility.

Opened in September 2013, The Little Wooden Cabins on Sky Island is a little world created by a young couple. They call this area Sky Island and built eight uniquely colored wooden cabins, all standing independently amid the surrounding fields. In spring and summer, they are surrounded by emerald-green rice paddies; in autumn and winter, when the fields lie fallow and turn into wetlands, the cabins cast stunning reflections on the water.

The eight cabins are operated as a homestay for guests visiting “Sky Island.” Designed with a standalone duplex concept, each cabin features a double bed on each side of the upper floor and another double bed downstairs, accommodating up to six people per cabin.

Walk down a long corridor, and you’ll find the most eye-catching installation on Sky Island besides the cabins — the “Water Chapel.” Completed just this March, the Water Chapel is a colorful chapel-shaped structure situated on a platform over the water. Its adorable design makes it super Instagrammable, and it has become one of the favorite spots for guests.

When it’s cold, soaking in the hot springs in Jiaoxi is perfect. Although The Little Wooden Cabins on Sky Island don’t have their own hot springs, the Jiaoxi hot spring area is just a 10–15 minute drive away. Guests can pick their favorite hot spring inn, enjoy a relaxing soak, then grab some late-night snacks before heading back to the island. Cozy up as you gaze at the beautiful pastoral scenery and enjoy your meal — with both belly and spirit fully satisfied.
