Traveling to New Zealand, Seeing glaciers is one of the highlights. and even more perfect is landing on the glacier., Walking on the glacier, From the air,(snow landing), the main options are! small planes or helicopters. Early in the morning, I drove to the airport, which is a, -minute drive from the city center, to get ready for departureLake Tekapocity center5-10-minute drive! So lucky, the weather was great, blue skies and white clouds. The weather isn't always this nice, When the weather is badPlaneItinerarywill be canceled. 

The itinerary involves taking a small plane. The two wings are above the windows, and won’t block the view..

Because it’s very full,, they even opened up an isolated driver’s seat for someone to sit in, which is great!

Lake Tekapo Village

Lake Tekapo . There are a lot of tourists, , it’s a world-famous stargazing spot, . The Church of the Good Shepherd, often seen on postcards, is also here.Mount JohnThe observatory is on the nearby mountain, , and you can join a stargazing tour at night. 

After that, during theLake Alexandria and McGregor

flight overthe Mackenzie Basin(Mackenzie Basin) ,, there are continuous snow-capped mountains on both sides.Mount Sibald.

Godley River. This river was carved out by glaciers that formedLake Tekapothe ice fields. The river channels crisscross, like braids,, forming part of the braided river system on New Zealand’s South Island. 

Flying over the glaciers allows you to see the isolated glaciers within Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park,, which are usually not visible. Examples include the Godley Glacier (Godley Glacier) and the Murchison Glacier,(Murchison Glacier), which are located in areas inaccessible by road. 

The Tasman Glacier is the longest glacier in New Zealand,, and its terminus can be viewed by boat from Mount Cook. To see its source, you’ll need to take a flight. 

This trip also offers a close-up view of New Zealand’s two highest peaks,: Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, as well asMount La Perouse (Mount La Perouse)). 

The plane flies slowly to allow passengers to clearly see the scenery along the way. When approachingMount Cook and the three major glaciers,it will even make a slow360degree turn, to ensure everyonegets a goodview.. 

Taking photos through the small windows, while avoiding aircraft parts, makes composition quite a challenge,, and you also need to be quick,, as many beautiful sights appear only briefly. Shooting through the glass also affects color and image quality,, but it’s still acceptable,, since you wouldn’t be able to capture these views without the flight. 

The plane will pass over Westland Tai Poutini National Park. The weather is great., You can also see the coastline of New Zealand’s west coast in the distance. Both the Franz Josef Glacier and the Fox Glacier are located on the western side of New Zealand., At the base of the glaciers lies a temperate rainforest that stretches toward the west.

If you plan to drive there to see them,the Franz Josef Glacier and the Fox Glacier,it requires a very long drive. There aren’t many other attractions on the West Coast,, and the weather is quite unpredictable. The temperate rainforest receives up to5meters of rainfall each year,, so getting good weather in the west is really not easy. I didn’t go to the West Coast during my first trip to New Zealand. On my second visit, I spent an entire day driving out there,, full of hope to take a helicopter tour and land on the glaciers. Unfortunately, the trip was canceled due to rain.

Glaciers are rivers made of ice,, covered in snow all year round,, that undergo compaction,, crystallization,, and refreezing to form..Under the weight of the ice and the force of gravity, glaciers move slowly,, creating significant friction with the ground,, which grinds rocks into gravel. Different parts of a glacier move at varying speeds,, resulting in cracks, and folds.

The base of the Tasman Glacier is an ice lake,, which formed as a glacier lake1999years ago, and has been steadily growing. There are many large ice blocks on the lake,, and you can take a boat to view the base of the glacier. However, near the part of the glacier close to the lake, there are many rock fragments on the ice,, making it appear grayish-black,, and not particularly beautiful. 

I flew back to Lake Tekapo.

This time, the weather for the glacier flight tour was absolutely perfect,, with stunning views., Diverse and ever-changing, Blue skies, White clouds, Snow-capped mountains, Glaciers, Valleys, Glacial lakes, Lakes, Rainforests, Coastlines, Breathtaking scenery that is completely out of sight from the ground, It is a truly rare journey!
