Kaohsiung’s First “International-Class” Hotel – Indigo Hotels Expands to Taiwan with a Presence in the Port City

Kaohsiung has its first international-class hotel. Lefang Hotel Management Group has introduced InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Indigo Hotels brand, which officially opened with a grand ceremony on the 16th next to Kaohsiung’s Central Park, now making it the city’s only international-class hotel. The team behind Kaohsiung Central Park Indigo Hotel has skillfully integrated elements of the port city — such as harbor life, shipping containers, local cuisine, and imported goods — into the hotel’s design, allowing guests to experience Kaohsiung’s cultural charm through a fresh and modern lens.

Li Qizhang, Vice Chairman of Lefang Hotel Management Group, stated that in recent years the Kaohsiung City Government has vigorously promoted its “International Kaohsiung” initiative, and having an international-class hotel is a key indicator of a city’s global appeal. Taipei has over ten international-brand hotels, while Taichung and Tainan each have one, but now with the opening of Kaohsiung Central Park Indigo Hotel, the city finally has an international-brand hotel of its own.

Indigo Hotels is a high-end boutique hotel brand under InterContinental Hotels Group, and the brand has been rapidly expanding worldwide. From Atlanta to London, New York to Chicago, Shanghai to Hong Kong, there are currently 72 Indigo Hotels globally with 8,554 rooms, and another 68 are under construction. In Greater China, there are 5 open Indigo Hotels and 11 more under development.

For its entry into Taiwan, the first Indigo Hotel was strategically located in Kaohsiung’s Xinxing District, the heart of the city’s urban renewal. The Kaohsiung Central Park Indigo Hotel interprets the neighboring culture and golden eras through innovative and thoughtfully crafted thematic design. With 129 spacious guest rooms and suites, each combines unique historical and cultural narratives, seamlessly blending local elements such as customs stamps, wooden crates, canned goods, imported products, lattice toys, and childhood snacks with a modern artistic design.
