Endless golden waves of rice – Top 5 rice field scenic spots across Taiwan

Most parts of eastern Taiwan have their first rice crop season from February to June, so the optimal viewing period is late May to June. During this time, the land is blanketed by golden rice seas, creating a stunning and healing view against the backdrop of blue skies and white clouds.

1. Yilan – Sanqi Rice Field Area
The Sanqi Rice Field Area in Dongshan Township, Yilan County, sees emerald-green rice waves in May every year, which turn into vast golden pathways as the ears mature in June. The Sanqi Rice Path is open to the public until June 30, 2018. It not only features viewing platforms that allow visitors to admire the rice waves from above but also offers prime photo spots for capturing the breathtaking beauty of the expansive rice fields.

2. Hualien – Provincial Highway 193
Known as one of the most beautiful highways in Taiwan, Provincial Highway 193 offers different scenery throughout the seasons. From late May onwards, you can see vast golden rice seas alongside flatland daylily blooms. Even during fallow periods, rapeseed flower seas can be enjoyed.

3. Hualien – Dongli Railway Station
In addition to Taiwan’s reputedly most beautiful Tarama Station, Dongli Station in Fuli Township, Hualien, may not boast magnificent seascapes, but it offers boundless views of rice fields. Paired with blue skies and white clouds on sunny days, the moving scenery rivals that of Tarama Station.
