Goodbye to fluctuating temperatures and hello again to heatwaves this weekend—with temperatures possibly soaring up to 37°C!

After a brief change in weather on Wednesday brought coolness to areas north of central Taiwan, Friday through the weekend will not only see the return of hot conditions but may also push temperatures up to a sweltering 37°C.

Starting from Thursday, May 24, as the frontal system moves away, southerly winds will bring back typical summer weather. Temperatures across Taiwan could reach 34–35°C, and the Taipei Basin’s topography may even see highs hit 37°C—stay extra vigilant about staying hydrated and using sun protection. Those staying in air-conditioned environments for long periods should also be mindful of the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors.

Additionally, this year’s plum rain season is arriving later than usual, and it may not arrive until June—or might not come at all, resulting in a “null plum rain season.” Special attention should be paid to potential water shortages across Taiwan.

On Monday, some areas such as northern Taoyuan and central Taiwan will see rain—stay particularly alert to changing weather conditions in the coming days.
